Leave messages at the desk if you want to gather with other early birds for outings around town or a game of golf. Meals are on your own. Dinner is informal and Dutch treat at a local restaurant, and anyone interested,
meet in the hotel lobby at 6:30 pm, each evening. Or get out of town and take a day trip to the Grand Canyon.
THURSDAY, June 24 (Official Reunion Opening Day)
8:30am - 12 Noon: Reunion Registration and Checkin. Located in hotel's lobby area.
8:30 am – 12:00 Noon: The Family Room is open. The Poindexter Family Room is located in a conference room at the hotel. Bring your photos, reserach collections to share and discuss with others. LAso a great place to get to know other Poindexter descendants. See old friends, meet new ones.
12:00 Noon – 1:30 pm: Free Time and lunch break.
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Reunion Registration and Checkin. Located in hotel's lobby area.
1:00 pm – 5:30 pm: The Family Room re-opens. The Poindexter Family Room is located in a conference room at the hotel. Bring your photos, reserach collections to share and discuss with others. LAso a great place to get to know other Poindexter descendants. See old friends, meet new ones.
5:00 pm -6:30 pm: Dinner is on your own. Plan to meet up with other descendants to continue your discussions or to get more aquainted.
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Scottsdale ArtWalk. Weekly showcase of art along Main Street from Scottsdale Road to Goldwater Blvd and on Marshall Way from Indian School Road to Fifth Ave. Meet in hotel lobby to walk with others or do it on your own. The starting point is just one block from the hotel.
8:30 pm – 9:30 pm – PDA Executive Board of Directors Meeting (Room TBA)
9:30 pm – Until... Visit in the Poindexter Family Room, Find a little nightlife with a Poindexter
cousin, or retire for the night.
FRIDAY, June 25
8:00 am: Golf Tournament: Time and details to be announced based on interest. If interested, contact Gary. His email and phone number is on the Reunion home page.
8:30 a.m. Registration and Poindexter Family Room. Same schedule as yesterday for those not wishing to venture outdoors.
9:00 am - 4:00 pm: Enjoy all there is to do in Scottsdale.
Downtown Scottsdale offers some of the finest galleries, specialty retail, cultural attractions and dining in the Valley of the Sun. Downtown Scottsdale is at the heart of the city's art scene, with Contemporary and Western Art, Theatre 4301 and a wide variety of outdoor sculptures set amid the lush green lawns and sparkling fountains of Civic Center Mall. Scottsdale's Arts District is home to a high concentration of galleries showcasing some of the best Western and Southwestern art in the country.
Throughout "Old Town", shopkeepers sell quality Native American crafts, offering everything from hand-woven Navajo rugs to Zuni silver jewelry. Local residents and visitors alike enjoy a wealth of dining choices in international cuisines, choosing from traditional American and Southwestern menus to East Indian and Mediterranean fare.

Dinner and Evening:
5:00pm: Meet in Lobby for Ducth Treat Dinner. Meet in the lobby to carpool to local Los Olivos Mexican restaurant for Dutch treat dinner. (Everyone should plan to bring enough CASH to pay for their meal, as the restaurant) (will allow only one check and one credit card per table of eight (8).) Prior to going to the restaurant, for dinner, this will allow time to visit the Museum, next door to the restaurant.
6:30pm - 10:00pm: Los Olivos Mexican Restaurant. Dinner at Los Olivos Mexican Restaurant, with a Latin band playing at 9:00 pm and anyone wishing to dance may stay to do so.
8:00 - Until ? Visit in the Poindexter Family Room, Find a little nightlife with a Poindexter Cousin, or
Retire for the Night.
SATURDAY, June 26
7:00 am - 8: 15 am Breakfast at our hotel or local restaurant on your own.
8:30 am - 10:00 am General PDA Members Meeting in the Family Room
10:00 am - 1:00 pm Free time to explore Scottsdale or visit with Poindexter cousins in the
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Presentations. List is not firmed up yet, but so far we have:
- 1:00pm: Melanie Sturgeon. the Arizona State Archivist will give a one hour presentation about using archives as well as some possible Poindexter Arizona history.
- Estate planning seminar presented by PDA Member Max Anastapolis
- FamilyTree DNA, someone from this organization, which hosts our Poindexter DNA Project, will speak about genealogy using DNA.
- Poindexters in Louisa County, Virginia. Discussion led by Jamie based on her visit to Louisa County in 2008. (tentative, as time permits)
4: 00 pm - 7:00 pm: Free time to return to your hotel room to dress for family the evening festivities.
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm: Our PDA Banquet, and Gift Exchange – Each attendee is requested to bring one
wrapped gift, with a suggested price of $15 to $20, something symbolic of their home town, state or
family, or perhaps something that you have handcrafted.
Buffet Dinner includes:
8:30 - 9:00 pm: Special Dinner Speaker and PDA Member, Mr. John B. Poindexter: John will talk about a “Must-See” DVD Presentation of his Blackhorse Regiment, Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Calvary that John commanded, as Captain, during the Vietnam War. Learn about their heroic actions taken on March 26, 1970, which resulted in saving the lives of over a hundred men from Company C, during a daring rescue. He and his men received the highest military unit honor, the “Presidential Unit Citation” by President Obama, in the Rose Garden, of the White House, and a Special Presentation and Reception by the US Department of Army, at the Pentagon, on October 20, 2009.
9:00 pm - 9:30 pm: Presentation of Awards and wrap-up of the reunion.
9:00 pm - Until ? Final visits with cousins and attendees in Poindexter Family Room, or Free-Time, on
your own, and retire for the night
SUNDAY, June 27
7:00 am – 10:30 am – Breakfast at hotel breakfast bar.
Then departure for your home or continue your travels.
