George Poindexter 1b. Isle of Jersey 1627 - d. Virginia Colony c.1691 - Immigrated to Virginia Colony about 1655-57.Based on PDA research to date, George is the first member of the Poingdestre family to immigrate to the New World. He was the third born son of Thomas, the Seigneur of the Fief ès Poingdestres on the Isle of Jersey. See his Timeline link below for more details on his life. NOTE: We designate this George as George 1 (George One or first generation in America) to distinguish him from his son and other George Poindexters that came after him. His lineage on the Isle of Jersey: ( Thomas , Edouard , Jean5 , Jean4, Jean3, Jean2, Jean1 ). Jean 1 lived mid to late 1300's. The Poingdestre name existed on Jersey and in Normandy earlier, but we don't yet have a paper trail showing relationship to George's lineage. George I was a planter (held a plantation) known as Criss Cross in Virginia. He also owned one or more ships which he used to ship hogs. He may have shipped other items, such as tabacco or slaves, we have not found records to say what else he may have shipped to or from the New World.
